What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that tightens the muscles and tissues in the neck, reduces excess fat and skin, and improves the contour of the neck. It can make you look younger and more rested. A neck lift is often performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. A neck lift surgery can be performed on men and women of all ages but is mostly performed on people who are over the age of 40.

What can a neck lift treat?

A neck lift is a very effective way to reduce the signs of aging in the lower part of your face and create a more youthful-looking appearance. It typically involves:

  • Removing excess skin and fat around the jawline
  • Tightening underlying muscles and skin to eliminate sagging, wrinkles, and jowls

A neck lift is often done as part of a facelift procedure; however, it can be done as an individual procedure as well. The results of a successful neck lift are visible right away and long-lasting with proper aftercare.

What to expect after your neck lift procedure?

It is normal to expect some initial swelling, tenderness, and bruising during the recovery period following a neck lift procedure. In most cases, these side effects will subside over the course of the first few weeks. With the fat removed from under the chin and tightened muscles along the jawline, patients should enjoy a firmer and toned neck with a more youthful look.

Will there be any guidelines to follow after my surgery?

To ensure long-lasting results, it is important to follow post-operative instructions given by your doctor carefully. This includes maintaining an upright position for approximately 2 days after surgery and avoiding strenuous activity or any kind of exercise for two weeks or more, as advised.

Am I a good candidate for a neck lift?

While most candidates are 50 or older, there are some cases where neck surgery is recommended for patients under the age of 50. For example, if a patient has undergone significant weight loss, they may be left with loose skin around their neck that can only be corrected through surgery. In addition, good candidates for a neck lift should be:

  • Healthy
  • Free from any medical conditions that could impede the healing process
  • A non-smoker
  • Realistic in their expectations

If you feel your lower face and neck do not match your upper face in terms of youthfulness, a neck lift could be the answer.
