What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure for reshaping the nose. While primarily employed to improve the patient's appearance, it’s also used to correct congenital defects, repair physical trauma, and reduce breathing difficulties due to poor nasal architecture. The surgery itself is complex and consists of manipulating, cutting, or rearranging the cartilage and underlying bone. With an expert surgeon, rhinoplasty can yield successful results that look natural and leave the patient feeling better about their look.

What issues can be corrected with rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a popular and versatile procedure that can make dramatic improvements to the facial appearance.

This procedure can address all areas of the nose to improve:

  • Symmetry
  • Nasal function
  • The overall balance of the face

Specifically, a rhinoplasty can:

  • Alter the size and shape of the bridge, nostrils, and tip
  • Remove bumps or indentations from the bridge

Whether you wish to reduce the size or width of your nose for improved facial aesthetics or strengthen the structure of your nose for better breathing function, rhinoplasty is an excellent procedure to consider. Rhinoplasty can also target certain medical conditions such as congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, or even trauma-related damage.

How will my rhinoplasty be performed?

During the surgery, our surgeon will reshape the nasal structures in the nose to create your ideal look. The procedure may include removing bone, cartilage, or tissue from the nose or altering their structures through grafts or implants.

Before any steps are taken, however, a consultation with our surgeon will be necessary. During this time, you'll talk about what changes you'd like to see in your nose. Your surgeon will then provide you with a detailed overview of what to expect during your rhinoplasty, as well as postoperative care instructions.

What to expect after your rhinoplasty

It is important to remember to be patient during the recovery period as it often takes several months for all swelling to completely subside, resulting in visible changes to the size, shape, and/or appearance of your nose. In addition, it is also recommended that you follow any postoperative instructions provided by your surgeon, such as refraining from strenuous activities or exposure to direct sunlight until fully healed to ensure proper healing and optimized results.

Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

If you are interested in improving the aesthetics and function of your nose, are reasonably healthy, and have realistic expectations for the outcome, you may be a good candidate for a rhinoplasty.
